I came across an old article in Nuclear Physics News in their "Lab Portrait" series about the nuclear theory group in Surrey, published in 2006. Here it is: Nuclear Physics News 13, 4-11 (2003).
I coauthored the article, along with the rest of the theorists, though reading through it now reminds me that the "group" saw itself as primarily its historical strength in reaction theory, with a good chunk from the theory work of Phil Walker, who straddled experiment and theory, with anything else something of a footnote. The "anything else" was described as the new additions (Makito Oi and me), and we (one third of the academic staff in the theory group) get a little look-in at the end.
The make up of the group has changed a lot since the article. I am now the only academic staff member still in position, though several colleagues in the theory group are emeritus fellows. Natasha Timofeyuk is still here (albeit with a little break between then and now) in a senior research fellow position. Perhaps it is time to suggest to Nuclear Physics News that a new lab portrait be written? I would certainly enjoy that, and would like to show the readership a balanced picture of the group's junior and senior members, reflecting the current ethos.
Here's the very low-res scan of the picture available in the article. I'm roughly in the middle of the second row. I can name a large number (but not all) of the people in the picture. If anyone is intrested, I could make an annotated version.
