Happy New Year!

It's 1st January 2025:  Happy New Year to all my readers (hi Mum).  I am still in the throes of the holiday period.  It's a Wednesday today, and Thursday and Friday this week are work days at the Univeristy, I have taken them both as annual leave and will not be going back properly until my kids go back to school on Tuesday 7th.

The last 4 week of semester one are in train now (strangely we are in week 12, even though the University is closed for 3 of the 5 days of it) and in those weeks when I do not have a lot of scheduled teaching activity, I have a busy sequence of travel:  Next Thursday and Friday is the UK Nuclear Physics Community's annual meeting, which I expect to attend, though the lure of staying in the office to get on with other tasks is strong.  The week after that I'll be in Naples for a conference on quantum computing where I was given a talk, and the week after that features a 2-day meeting in Glasgow as part of the "Quantum Technologies for Fundamental Physics" project from UKRI under which I hold a grant.

For those that ever followed me on Twitter, I moved some time ago to BlueSky, after several occurrences of terrible things done by Elon Musk.  Of course I should have completely left earlier.  My main account on BlueSky is pdstevenson, and I also run one for the Surrey Nuclear Theory Group, and have just started one for the crossover between nuclear physics and quantum computing.  Please do follow any/all of them!

Since it is (or has just been) Christmastime, here is a festive picture, of attending the snow session at the ice skating rink in Guildford:
